Guidance Services
Users consult librarians assistance in
finding information or materials relevant to a continuing interest, such acarrying out a research project, or
enjoying recreational reading.
1. Reader’s Advisory Services
- Reflects the goal or personal assistance to readers.
- Interview library users to understand their needs and goals, then choose library materials that would fulfill those needs.
2. Term Paper Counseling
- Also called as term-paper assistance or research consultation.
- Usually offered in location other than the reference desk.
- The librarian consider students need, assesses students understanding of library use and search strategies, and provide individualized guidance on which library tools should be consulted to find appropriate sources of information.
3. Research Assistance and Consulting
- The librarian assists in a) setting up a service, b) offering advice about the problem/ project, c) guiding the user on how to approach the problem
